Prof. M.M. Deshmukh is known as a great historical researcher and a pillar of the reform movement in Maharashtra.
Through his writing and research, he fought against the reactionary ideology in the society and did important work for the upliftment of the Bahujan community.
His book “History of Medieval India” was opposed by the reactionary upper class, due to which the book was burnt in front of Nagpur University and a symbolic funeral procession was taken out for him.
However, Bahujan students and youth responded to this opposition and took out a procession in his support.
Prof. M.M. Deshmukh challenged the Manuwadi ideology through various books and worked for the upliftment of the Bahujan community.
Due to this work, he is still known as a source of inspiration for reformist ideas.
