Lord Buddha and His Dhamma, Post No.149…  — Discourse on Nibbana…  — What is Nibbana?

      — Once upon a time the Lord lived with Sariputta in the orphanage of Anathapindaka at Sravasti.

 — Addressing the bhikkhus there, the Lord said, ‘Bhikkhus, instead of worldly possessions, you should become partakers of my Dhamma, and I am concerned out of compassion for you that this may happen.’

 — Having said this, the Lord got up and went to his cave.

 — Sariputta was left behind, the Bhikkhuni requested him to explain the meaning of Nibbana.

 — Then Sariputta replied to the bhikkhus, “Monks, greed is a very unskillful dharma. Anger is also a very unskillful dharma.

 — The Middle Way teaches how to get rid of this greed and this anger. He gives eyes to see, vision and knowledge. It gives you peace, wisdom, bodhi and memory, and samyak samadhi is the middle path.

 — What is that middle way? It is not different from the Ashtanga path. Right Vision, Right Resolution, Right Read, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Memory and Right Samadhi are the middle path.

 — Anger, evil mind, hatred, jealousy, miserliness, greed, hypocrisy, deceit, insolence, pride, sloth are all unskillful actions.

 — The way to get rid of pride and laziness is the middle way. He gives sight and knowledge to see, He is the path to peace, wisdom and Bodhi.

 — Nibbana is nothing but the Ashtanga path.

 — That bhikkhu became happy with the speech of that Mahasthavir Sariputta.
